Russell Brand Scandal: Comedian Found Guilty of Rape and Sexual Assault in London Trial

British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a high-profile trial at Southwark Crown Court in London on November 5, 2026. The verdict marks a major development in a case involving allegations from multiple women dating back to the early years of his entertainment career.

Brand, 51, faced charges relating to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2009. After approximately four weeks of proceedings, a jury found him guilty of four offenses involving four women.

According to the prosecution, one of the guilty verdicts concerned the rape of a 21-year-old woman in 2009. The remaining convictions involved sexual misconduct against three other women, including an MTV employee who was groped in 2004, a woman who was kissed and groped at her workplace in 2005, and another woman who was sexually assaulted after being forced to give him a massage in 2009.

However, the jury did not find Brand guilty of every charge. He was acquitted of two additional rape counts and one count of attempted indecent assault involving two other complainants.

Russell Brand Denied the Allegations During the Trial

Throughout the legal proceedings, Brand denied the accusations against him. He maintained that he had never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity, although he acknowledged that he had sometimes misused his celebrity status.

Six women provided testimony during the trial, describing their experiences and allegations against the comedian. The accusations covered a period when Brand was becoming increasingly popular through television, radio, stand-up comedy and film appearances.

The case attracted significant public attention because of Brand’s previous celebrity status and the seriousness of the allegations.

In recent years, Brand has moved away from traditional entertainment broadcasting and developed a substantial online audience. His content increasingly focused on wellness, religion, American politics and conspiracy theories.

Sentencing and Further Police Investigations

Following the guilty verdicts on November 5, Judge Mr Justice Bennathan remanded Brand in custody. The judge indicated that the comedian could face a significant custodial sentence, with formal sentencing scheduled for the following Monday.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that separate investigations into two additional rape allegations involving Brand remain active.

The verdict represents a significant turning point in the former television personality’s career and public reputation. While the convictions establish his criminal responsibility for the offenses decided by the jury, the separate allegations remain subject to investigation.

The case continues to attract international attention, with major news organizations including the BBC, CNN, NBC News and The New York Times following developments.
